VOLUNTEERS OF RCM
Volunteer groups play a vital role at RCM. Steve Turner, the Volunteer Coordinator at RCM, says that the purpose of volunteer groups is twofold. First, without groups coming in throughout the year it would be difficult to complete the many work projects that need to be accomplished. Secondly, he hopes that groups can gain a better appreciation for the challenges and blessings of urban ministry during their stay. It is RCM’s hope that groups leave with a better understanding of how the Lord is working both in their lives and in the lives of those living in the city.
Throughout the year a number of groups from colleges, camps, and churches share their gifts and resources with RCM. Some groups come for the weekend, while others stay for the entire week. Groups are actively involved in the Homes Corp., working with the Summer Day Camp, helping at 33 East (Thrift Store), hanging out with kids upstairs at the Strong Tower, or volunteering in the community wherever they are needed. No matter what gifts and abilities people have, one can be sure they will be used and appreciated!
RCM has recently purchased and renovated the building next door to the Center. This building is used primarily for the groups that come. It includes sleeping quarters, bathrooms, a kitchen, and a large multi-purpose room. This facility allows the groups to have a place of their own for team building, relaxing, and meetings. In the future we hope to further utilize this space by bringing in guest speakers to help groups better understand the history and vision of RCM.
